Happy New Year! And Let The Planning Begin!

Well it is 2011 and just one short year ago, my sister and I began to plan our parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration which was held on June 11, 2010.

Celebrating such a momentous occasion with family and loved ones was a remarkable experience.

Our planning began with a list of guests, selecting invitations, securing a location to have the party, then deciding on the food choices and service, printing and mailing the invitations, as well as choosing a gift, making a Memory Book, and creating a celebratory movie using Windows Movie Maker.

Your plans may include some of the above activities and it is my hope that you find some items here that are helpful in planning your family's 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration.

50th Wedding Anniversary Music

Have you chosen music to play at your 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration?

Here are a few ideas for music selection for the special celebration:

1) The couple's First Dance song: My parent's first dance song was "True Love" written by Cole Porter and performed by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly in the 1955 film, "High Society". I found the True Love version performed by Dean Martin online, purchased and downloaded it and added it to the movie we made as well as a CD we made that we played during the party.

2) Classic Love Songs: Including "When I Fall In Love”, “Some Enchanted Evening”, “Someone to Watch Over Me”, “You Make Loving Fun", “Songbird”, and “Just the Way You Are”.

3) Favorite Songs from Broadway Shows: As a family we all enjoyed the Mama Mia and Fiddler On The Roof Broadway productions and therefore included a couple of songs from these shows in the CD and movie musical compilations.

Hope your planning for your special celebration is going well and that these ideas for selecting music for the party, pre-party, and post parties is helpful!

It's been fun to listen to the CD even today, almost 6 months after the celebration. But why not, we're still celebrating to this day the love, dedication, and commitment of our parent's True Love.

50th Wedding Anniversary Cake Toppers

As many of you know, my parents celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past June.

It was their preference to have chocolate mousse cakes. Well sort of. My parents knowing how much their youngest grandchild loves chocolate delegated the distinct honor of choosing the dessert, knowing that it would most definitely be a chocolate creation. And it was. It was delicious.

I have read and know of celebrating families that request and order cakes that are replicas or resemble the couple's wedding cake. What a great idea! Of course the cake topper would be celebratory of the occasion, possibly like the one pictured above.

Many manufacturer's offer 50th Wedding Anniversary cake toppers, including Wilton. Decorating the cake with this commemorative topper will definitely make it special. The topper will also be a wonderful souvenir from the celebration of 5 decades of love, honor, and commitment.

A 50th Anniversary Memory Book as A Golden Wedding Anniversary Keepsake Gift

I was online this afternoon and noticed this gorgeous 50th Wedding Anniversary Memory book.

Celebrating 50 Years Of Marriage Keepsake Memory Book

Golden Wedding Anniversary Keepsake Gift
What makes this memory book so beautiful, in addition to its classic design with gold and ivory colors, is that it is a photo book and scrapbook combined, creating a true keepsake for the celebrating couple. I love this feature.

Also, at 9" wide x 10.5" high , it's a nice size. Small enough to manage carrying around, nice size for a coffee table, and also a nice size for filling the pages with pictures, poems, and many scrapbooking items and ideas.

This book also has pages available for guests to sign after presenting it to the special couple at a 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration. There are 20 pages for guests signatures and sentiments, and 64 designed pages for photos and keepsakes.

There are enough pages in this book to be able to feature wedding and honeymoon pictures and memorabilia, photo memories and collections from through out the special couples marriage, while saving some pages for 50th anniversary party memories.

This 50th Wedding Anniversary Keepsake Memory Book is gift boxed and is acid-free, lignin-free, PVC-free to protect these loving memories for generations.

50th Wedding Anniversary Poem

I wish I would have found this poem by Genie Graveline before our parents 50th Wedding Celebration, but I guess it's never too late to celebrate such a wonderful occasion!

"50 Years of Love" by Genie Graveline

There's something about the two of you,
That brought friends and family here.
Perhaps it's the love that everyone feels,
In your presence whenever you're near.

Or is it the spark that's still in your eyes,
Or the stories you both love to share,
Or maybe the playful looks you exchange,
That express just how deeply you care.

No doubt, it's the sum of all that you are,
That gathers us here by your side...
To celebrate every year of your love,
And to honor this "groom" and his "bride."

So, may you continue to brighten this world,
And to get just as much as you give,
Enjoying the fruits of the seeds you have sown,
Every day...for as long as you live!

This is such a beautiful poem, it could be viewed as a 50th Wedding Anniversary quote, or even as a toast at 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration.
